Natural Vegetation Regions
The US is divided also in natural vegetation regions, by thinking about the main kinds of plants that grow naturally in certain areas.
1. Needle – Leaved Forests.
2. Broad - Leaved Forests.
3. Mixed needle – leaved and broad – leaved forest.
4. Grasslands.
5. Shrubs.
6. Tundra.
In the coastal plains, needle –leaved trees (like the pine) very often mix together with broad –leaved trees (like maple). Forests of broad leaved trees generally cover the Appalachian Highlands and the Eastern plains.
The Great plains are grasslands, and low shrubs grow on the weastern plateau.
Needle – Leaved trees grow over large part of the Rocky Mountain and the pacific Mountain Region.
Tundra is a low, swampy plain near the Artic Ocean. The vegetation is made up of grasses and low flowering plants.
Climate
The long range kind of weather is called climate “Climate”
The United Sates has climate regions:
The Southeastern quarter of the country may be called.
- Summer –hot, winter-mild and wet (Florida).
· The Northeastern Quarter:
- Summer-hot, winter-cold and wet. (New York).
· The western of the Great Plains:
- Summer –warn, winter-cold and rather dry (Kansas)
· The Southwest :
- Summer- hot, winter – mild and very dry.(New Mexico)
· Large part western plateau regions:
- Summer – warm, winter – cold and dry (Utah)
· The pacific coast:
- Cool to mild and rather dry(Southern California)
· In Hawaii
- Hot, wet all year.
· In Alaska
- Cold, wet in the south
- Cold, very dry in the Northern Tundra Region.
